Bio

Hi, I'm Kay!

I chose to read French at university because I was good at it and enjoyed it, but I didn't have a clear plan about what to do after that. After graduating, I spent three years in Manchester having a great old time and working at various part-time/temporary jobs. I eventually moved to Italy in the late summer of 1995 in search of adventure. And found it in abundance!

Although I had no Italian when I moved out there I was speaking it more or less well after a year. It was an interesting language acquisition process, as I learnt first to speak, and some time later to read and write the language - just like learning one's mother tongue!

I gained much professional experience while living and working in Italy and throughout my years there I would always find myself translating documents, either as part of a job remit or on a personal level, as a favour for a friend or acquaintance.

I returned to the UK in 2008 and in 2011 my father asked me if I would help him to run his small translation agency. I agreed and worked with him until 2018. Again, much invaluable experience was acquired in this position as in-house translator, project manager (and latterly general manager). I understand what clients need and look for when they entrust a language professional with a project...

Freelance since 2018, I love what I do and have a great track record with my loyal and regular clients. No complaints!

I always put my very best efforts into every translation I work on and can guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed if you sent some work my way.

I also undertake proofreading and copy-editing assignments.

I'm passionate about language and languages; when I was about eight years old (and living in Denmark), my friend and I made up our own language, complete with cogent rules on syntax and grammar and so on! Her father recently found the hard-copy evidence of this while doing a clear-out of his attic! And nowadays, I enjoy using an app called DuoLingo where I am learning Dutch, Latin, Arabic and Greek!...

Thanks for reading and hope to meet you soon.
