Source text - English What's a freelance translator?
A common and widespread assumption among those who are not familiar with this job is that being a freelancer implies more freedom of movement than working as an employee. In practice, you can work "when" and "if" you decide to.
First of all, many people still do not have a clear picture of what a freelance translator is and does; when asked about my job, I simply say "I am a translator", and most of the askers reply: “What? And what does a translator do? And how can you work from home, alone, with no employer? And so on. It is often discouraging to hear questions like that, as I have to sing the same old song every time.
Why time is vital to a freelance translator?
How difficult it is to start as a freelance translator depends either from your experience and the existence/non-existence of help and support from outside you may trust in. But this is another story. Let's assume you have already got your business started and focus on TIME, which leads us to another crucial word: ORGANISATION.
Unless you pay the required attention to that magical word, I can tell you from my own experience that being a freelancer will turn you into a captive! Working as a freelancer does not mean, nor it should, that you should have no time-tables or any schedules to follow. On the contrary, the more your freedom from any traditional employment, the better you have to plan your workday and personal life.
Otherwise, the first risk you run is to be so completely absorbed by your job as to say goodbye to the rest of your life.
It is very common—and often justified—for a freelance translator at the beginning of his/her career to think that the most important thing is "working, working and still working". Right, we have chosen this kind of job because "passion drives us" most of us do not work well with fixed time-tables, depending on other people to do our job, going to the office every morning and so on. BUT you have to set limits even to that freedom, so you should start considering some kind of opening/closing hours for your home office. I know it is difficult to shut down your PC at 6.00 p.m. if you have a job you are about to complete (only 2 pages!), but you should follow the rule.
When and how many times should you check your incoming e-mails?
Checking your e-mails frequently is important, as your work largely depends on them. If you have an ADSL connection, you usually have no problem checking your messages frequently, as it is often not necessary to establish a new connection every time—and it is cheaper. Another good idea would be to set an acoustic mail notifier that informs you of each incoming e-mail with no need to visually check the mail icon on the traybar on the bottom of your desktop.
Of course, as the clients/translation agencies a freelance works with may be located in different parts of the world, you should consider the problem of time zones: a good solution is to set an auto-responder to your e-mail program stating you are temporarily unavailable and will reply ASAP. That way, if a client sends a message when you are in bed at 1.00 a.m., he/she will get a reply, even though not a human one!
Another rule you should follow is: please, DO NOT WORK ON WEEKENDS: easier said than done! Well, if sometimes you are obliged to work on Sunday because you have to complete a very urgent job, then you should try not to work at least on Monday morning, in order to rest a while and restore your profit-and-loss time balance.
In practice, you should establish a sort of "time budget" and divide your professional time into, for instance, self-training (learning new software programs, attending courses, language seminars, etc.), dedicating some time to professional forums1 and (most crucial) to marketing. The rest of your time should be dedicated to private and social life and, hopefully, to holidays.
In other words, you should organise your time as any other business, in which there are periods of hard work, during which you will be unable to dedicate yourself to marketing, for example, but, on the other hand, there will also be periods of fewer incoming jobs. These are not to be considered as a waste of time or a negative thing: rather, you should take advantage of them to do what you cannot deal with when "working" – i.e., public relations, marketing, compiling glossaries, check your databases of agencies, etc.
An important side of planning consists in setting your future goals: to pass a specific exam for XX Language Association, to acquire new customers, to improve your website—if you have one – or to decide it is time to get your own website, etc.
Translation - Arabic من هو المترجم المستقل؟
الاعتقاد الشائع و المنتشر بين من هم ليسوا على دراية بهذه الوظيفة هو أن كونك مستقلًا يتضمن حرية الحركة بقدر أكبر من العمل كموظف. و في واقع الأمر، يمكنك العمل متى و إذا قررت ذلك.
أولا، مازال الكثيرون لا يمتلكون صورة واضحة عن ماهية المترجم المستقل و ما يفعله؛ عندما أُسأل عن عملي أجاوب ببساطة "أنا مترجم" ، و يرد معظم السائلون: "ماذا؟ و ماذا يفعل المترجم؟ و كيف يمكنك العمل من المنزل وحدك بدون صاحب عمل؟" إلخ. إنه لمن المحبط سماع أسئلة مماثلة معظم الوقت حيث أضطر كل مرة لتكرار نفس اللحن القديم.
لماذا يعد الوقت حيويا للمترجم المستقل؟
تعتمد صعوبة البدء كمترجم مستقل سواء على خبرتك ووجود أو عدم وجود المساعدة و الدعم الخارجي الموثوق به، ولكن هذه قصة أخرى؛ لنفترض أنك قد بدأت عملك الخاص بالفعل و لنركز على الوقت، مما يقودنا إلى كلمة أخرى حاسمة و هي "التنظيم"
يمكنني إخبارك بناء على تجربتي الشخصية أن كونك مستقلًا سيحولك إلى سجين إن لم تولي الاهتمام اللازم لتلك الكلمة السحرية. لا يعني العمل كمستقل-ولا ينبغي أن يعني- عدم اتباعك لأي جداول زمنية أو أي جداول متابعة، بل على العكس من ذلك كلما ازداد تحررك من أي عمل تقليدي كلما تعين عليك أن تخطط ليومك العملي و حياتك الشخصية بشكل أفضل، و غير ذلك فإن المخاطرة الأولى التي ستتعرض لها هي أن تستغرق في عملك بشكل كامل بحيث تودع بقية حياتك.
من الشائع جدا -و المبرر عادة- بالنسبة للمترجم المستقل في بداية حياته المهنية أن يعتبر أن أهم شيء هو" العمل ثم العمل ثم الاستمرار في العمل"، وهذا صحيح، فقد اخترنا وظيفة من هذا النوع لأن "العاطفة تقودنا" فلا يعمل معظمنا جيدا باستخدام جداولا زمنية ثابتة حيث نعتمد على الآخرون للقيام بعملنا والذهاب إلى المكتب كل صباح إلخ، و لكن يجب عليك أن تضع حدودا حتى لتلك الحرية، فيجب عليك أن تبدأ في التفكير في نوع ما من مواعيد بداية و نهاية العمل لمكتبك المنزلي. أعلم أنه من الصعب أن تغلق حاسوبك في السادسة مساء إذا كان لديك عمل أنت على وشك الانتهاء منه (صفحتان فقط!) و لكن يجب عليك اتباع القاعدة.
متى و كم من المرات يجب أن تتفقد بريدك الالكتروني؟
تفقد بريدك الإلكتروني مهم حيث يعتمد عملك عليه بشكل كبير. لو كنت مشتركا بخدمة ADSL (خط الاشتراك الرقمي غير المتماثل) لن تواجه أي مشاكل في تفقد بريدك الإلكتروني بانتظام معظم الوقت، حيث أنه ليس ضروريا أن تجري اتصالًا جديدًا كل مرة كما أنه أرخص. فكرة أخرى جيدة هي أن تقوم بضبط إخطار بريدي صوتي ليبلغك بكل بريد إلكتروني وارد دون الحاجة للتفقد البصري لأيقونة البريد الالكتروني في شريط المهام أسفل سطح مكتبك.
و بطبيعة الحال، حيث أن العملاء/وكالات الترجمة التي يعمل معها المترجم قد تتواجد في أجزاء مختلفة من العالم، يجب عليك أن تضع في اعتبارك مشكلة فرق التوقيت؛ و حل جيد هو أن تقوم بضبط رسالة رد أوتوماتيكية لبريدك الشخصي تفيد أنك غير متاح مؤقتا وأنك ستقوم بالرد في أسرع وقت ممكن، بهذه الطريقة إذا أرسل لك عميلا رسالة بينما أنت نائم في الواحدة صباحا، سيتلقى ردا حتى و إن كان ردا غير بشريا.
قاعدة أخرى يجب علك اتباعها هي : من فضلك لا تعمل في عطلات آخر الأسبوع، و ذلك قوله أسهل من فعله. حسنا، لو أنك أحيانا مضطرا للعمل في يوم الأحد لأنه يجب عليك أن تكمل عملا عاجلا جدا حاول على الأقل ألا تعمل صباح الاثنين لترتاح لفترة و تستعيد التوازن بين الوقت المكتسب و الوقت الضائع.
و في الواقع، يجب عليك وضع "ميزانية زمنية" و تقسيم وقتك المهني على سبيل المثال بين التدريب الذاتي (تعلم برمجيات جديدة وحضور دورات تدريبية وندوات لغوية إلخ) و تخصيص بعض الوقت للمنتديات المتخصصة و (الأهم) التسويق، و الباقي من وقتك يجب أن يكون مخصصا للحياة الخاصة و الاجتماعية و -من المحبذ- العطلات.
و بعبارة أخرى، يجب عليم أن تنظم وقتك كأي عمل تجاري آخر يتضمن فترات من العمل الجاد لن تتمكن خلالها من تكريس نفسك للتسويق على سبيل المثال، و لكن من ناحية أخرى، سيكون هناك أيضا فترات من العمل الوارد القليل، و لا تعتبر هذه الفترات مضيعة للوقت أو شيء سلبي، بل يجب أن تستفيد منها في القيام بما لا يمكنك القيام به خلال فترات العمل مثل العلاقات العامة والتسويق وتجميع المعاجم وتفقد قاعدة بياناتك للوكالات إلخ.
و هناك جانب مهم للتخطيط يشمل وضع أهداف مستقبلية: اجتياز امتحان معين لإحدى رابطات اللغات أو الحصول على عميل جديد أو تحسين موقعك الإلكتروني – إذا كنت تمتلك واحدا – أو أن تقرر أنه حان الوقت لأن تحصل على موقعك الالكتروني الخاص إلخ.

Source text - Arabic Ethiopia is a country with an overwhelmingly young population. About 63% of the total population of Ethiopia is below the age of 25 years. Young people of ages 10–24 are the largest group to be entering adulthood in Ethiopian history.
This cohort of young people makes up 25% of the total population (2007 Census). The health of young people is directly affected by the socio-cultural and economic context in which they live.
Gender inequality, sexual coercion, early marriage, high levels of teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, and AIDS, are among the sexual and reproductive health problem faced by many young Ethiopians.
These are further complicated by limited access to reproductive health information and good quality adolescent and youth-friendly reproductive health services in the country.
Being aware of the various interrelated and complex reproductive health problems that young Ethiopians face, the Government of Ethiopia has shown its commitment to improving the reproductive health status of young Ethiopians through issuing the National Adolescent and Youth Reproductive Health Strategy (Federal Ministry of Health, FMOH 2007).
Health workers have an important role in improving the reproductive health of young people in Ethiopia. As a community health practitioner, you can contribute to the improvement of the reproductive health of young people through various means.
Young people have needs that are quite different from those of older people. Understanding their special needs is key to helping them.
Providing them with the appropriate information and services, mobilising the community in support of adolescent and youth reproductive health programmes, and working with and for young people are the major interventions that you can focus on in your community.

وتتسبب إمكانية الحصول المحدودة على معلومات الصحة الإنجابية وخدمات الصحة الإنجابية عالية الجودة الملائمة للمراهقين والشباب في زيادة تعقيد هذه المشكلات.
وإدراكًأ منها لمختلف مشكلات الصحة الإنجابية المتداخلة والمعقدة التي يواجهها الشباب الإثيوبي، أظهرت حكومة إثيوبيا التزامها بتحسين حالة الصحة الإنجابية للشباب الإثيوبي من خلال إصدار الخطة الوطنية للصحة الإنجابية للشباب والمراهقين (وزارة الصحة الاتحادية 2007).
