How to find joined segments | Find locked segments

After you merge a pair of segments, your translation goes to the first segment. The second one remains blank and gets locked. You have to filter all locked blank segments.
First, navigate to File - Options - Editor - Automation - Hide empty segments that have been merged — uncheck or make sure it has been unchecked.
In Editor, open the Advanced Display Filter, content tab. Type ^$ for the source field and check the Regular Expression box. Switch to the File Attribute tab, add the Locked attribute from the Segment Locking list into the right-hand pane, apply the filter. This would show up empty locked segments. Unless you have locked other empty segments for a reason, the filtering hits will represent the merged segments. Then unlock each empty segment, edit the source segment to its initial state and move your translations accordingly.

Hello,

A client sent me a Transit project. I joined a couple of source segments, which the client says has made the return package unusable. I need to undo the joined segments or join the target segments as well. The trouble is, I don't know how to find the segments I joined. Does anyone know how I can find them and then how I can undo them?

I turns out the file was converted from PDF to Word. That explains why every space in certain sentences had custom formatting tags. The customer was able to fix it and send a new version.

Hello -- I wrote this query in 2022. Now I just got a similar file, but not exactly the same. In this case, in many sentences each word is wrapped in a tag. Any idea how to handle this with Transit NXT?

In case, I think it is definitely NOT an OCR problem. I dug a little deeper into the Word file and looked at the "document.xml" file. There, I can see that some of the words are wrapped in tags.

I would upload a screenshot but I don't see how to do that in PROZ anymore.

For the past month when I try to run a spellcheck for the Greek language and whenever I confirm a segment I get two consecutive error messages:

The MS dictionary for the Greek language is installed and selected, and it's also working in all my other applications.

Please note that I am using Office 365.

Has anyone else faced this issue? Do you have any idea what may be the cause of this error?

After pasting the correct API auth key into Transit (it works in Trados), it complains "The client credentials are invalid."
I've already tried with a fresh API key. SP16, build 2324.8

Hello all,

I received a job from a client online via CLM. I then translated it offline using NXT Freelance. There were a few pre-translated segments and I changed a couple of them. After uploading the package and completing the job in CLM, the changes I made to the pre-translated segments were no longer visible and the client's proofreader only saw the original version of these segments, not my altered version. The segments that were not pre-translated were transferred without any problems.

Has anyone else had this issue?

To output xlf from Transit NXT, you have to Unpack it (see dropdown list of options bottom right when you select Unpack). As stated in my 2020 posts, Transit unfortunately treats xlf as a Project format, not a File format.

I would like to do as many jobs as possible in Transit NXT.

I receive some Trados packages, but mostly memoq files (typically as .xlf files not .mqout packages).

Transit can import everything fine (including refmat), but there is no way to export the finished translation in the correct format. This makes me wonder why STAR even bothered to add this functionality, as it only does half the job.

I tried this but couldn't get it to work. I've been in the industry for over 25 years now and tried almost every single CAT tool out there. Transit NXT is by far my favourite, but things like this make life more difficult than it needs to be.

That depends on the file format. See here.

Personally, I prefer Align Factory Light for all aligning tasks.

You don't have an SQL driver installed, so my question was not relevant for you.

If Iris' suggestion doesn't work: can you export the database to a Termstar image, then empty the database and import the image?

Personally, I'd export the termbase to text or Excel and translate the language pair files in CafeTran Espresso ... I've had it with buggy termbases.

Dear Yuna,
have you tried whether compacting your dictionaries might help?
If you go to Dictionaries >> Manage Dictionaries, the TermStar database expert opens with a button named "Compact". You have to select the database containing the relevant dictionaries and press "Compact". Sometimes this helps with unstable Access databases.

Hello Hans,

The problem is still occurring. I'm getting through with concordance searches and my memory of working for this client since 2012.
Star won't help unless I give them remote access to computer and projects, NDA preccludes me from doing so (the client won't budge).

I keep having to restart Transit for every project and sometimes mid-project.

This is so frustrating.

re. SQL driver : where do I check that? The dictionaries provided by my client are Access-based.
