Description:

Prior to the session take a moment to complete this 3 minute exercise here

One of my specialisms is terminology and technical language of geological research, drilling and construction of crude oil storage facilities. Oil and gas industry is involved in the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting, and marketing petroleum products. Petroleum is critical concern to many nations. While oil companies explore new markets, their need for breaking the barriers of communication translates into more opportunities for language experts. However, in my experience with oil and gas terminology, I happened to see many translation mistakes made especially by student translators lacking skills and confidence to nail the challenge. But is it always about terminology or lack of confidence? It is tempting to think that a successful technical translation is all about good terminology management. Is it true? What if we challenge this concept?

In one hour you will be able to learn about the most common pitfalls to avoid, some techniques and tools of the trade. You will be able to see by means of examples how strict adherence to context creates a satisfactory translation. The suggestions in this webinar are aimed at reducing stress and getting the most out of a translation project. References will be given throughout the presentation for future reading.
