fiscal year commencing on XX and ended XX

Note: In this case I used "ended" because the original in Spanish clearly states "cerrado", when some document refers to the fiscal year in course you may usually find "que cierra el XX" and the translation in that case would be "ending on XX"

agree philgoddard : I don't agree with your explanation though - you could say ending or ended. I would go for "ending" for consistency with "commencing".

agree Sonja Scherling : I agree with philgoddard's comment though.

Thank you Sonja. I do admit that for the sake of consistency "ending" sounds better. Saludos
agree patinba : Ended is correct. Accountants are picky, and like ended for periods in the past.

Accountants always use "ended" for a year that has already concluded. However, "ending" is used only when referring to a current year that has not ended yet, and usually appears in proposals for auditing the financial statements of the coming year.

Also, the term "beginning" is usually used when referring to the beginning of a fiscal year, and most commonly found in the yearly editions of "Accounting Trends and Techniques".

These are standard boilerplate terms in financial statements and documents issued by CPA firms such as management letters.

Hope this helps.
