"permanently" nie brzmi źle i z tego co widzę, jest w tym kontekście powszechnie stosowane, leki przyjmowane "na stałe", czyli w przewlekłych schorzeniach, z których się zasadniczo pacjenta nie ulecza, tylko regulują w koniecznym stopniu chemię w organizmie, bez czego by sobie ów sam nie poradził.

Continuosly wchodzi w rachubę- jednak kontekst jest zbyt mało jednoznaczny. On a regular basis- wskazuje raczej- że nie ma takiej potrzeby, aby je przyjmował na stałe, więc tego nie robi w taki sposób- natomiast - "regularly" wskazuje, że nie robi tego także ze wzg. karygodnych- tzn. powinien przyjmować leki - np: ze wzg. na przewlekłą chorobę, ale tego nie czyni.

Uwaga dodatkowa:
On a regular basis oznacza ponadto- to, co rozumiemy powszechnie, kiedy nas pytają: Czy przyjmuje Pan jakieś leki na stałe (czyli- czy istnieje potrzeba- jak wspomniałem- wymuszona albo chorobą przewlekłą (np.: padaczka/ niedoczynność tarczycy), lub na stałe- nie sensu stricte (do końca życia- np.: statyny), ale od jakiegoś, zwykle dłuższego czasu- czyli np.: leki na depresję. (te niektórzy pacjenci mogą przyjmować od lat). Lekarz pytający prawdopodobnie ma na myśli leki przyjmowane z konieczności w sposób- w istocie- permanentny. Jednak podobne pytania kryją czasem w sobie dwuznaczności. Zatem regularly oznaczałoby raczej- ‘czy nie odchodzi Pan od zaleconego Panu sposobu przyjmowania leków’ ( wyznaczonego Panu przez lekarza).
Zwroty uzależnione kontekstowo. Samo – on a regular basis ma potwierdzenie medyczne w lekarskiej anamnezie w podobnych kontekstach dot. sposobu przyjmowania leków.

Post a complete removal of the thyroid gland, the patient has to be on constant medication and daily treatment is needed to keep the body's thyroid needs -
