German term

BI

German to English Medical Medical (general) Histology/pathology
This is from part of a medical report on histology/pathology:

Makroscopie
1. (Antrum) ein Partikel.
2. (Corpus) ein Partikel. (2 BI, kR, PAS, 2% Giemsa).

I presume this refers to a type of stain but I'm not sure what BI stands for here.

Discussion

Susanne Schiewe Mar 25, 2021:
@Getschi Magst du nicht deinen Vorschlag "Blöcke" einstellen?
Brent Sørensen Mar 24, 2021:
I also agree with Getschi and Susanne. Please provide an an answer for kR. I can remove my suggestion now that we know it doesn’t refer to a stain.
Susanne Schiewe Mar 23, 2021:
Sounds plausible, Getschi. I also agree with your suggestion "kR" = "kein Rest(material)".
Getschi Mar 23, 2021:
I don't think it's a stain you are after. If it says BI (bi) it could stand for biopsy, if Bl (BL) it could be block, both of which would then be embedded (using a cassette) and stained with PAS and 2% Giemsa. There are no remains (as everything was prepared) The 2 initially puzzled me, but it refers to the specimen from the corpus and the one from the antrum.

It isn't easy to guess not knowing what is being investigated. It could mean '2 Basila Invaginations'

It could be a short form of BI-Rads .

Block

It seems to fit (if this says BL rather than Bi in the source).
BL is given as an abbreviation for Block in Beckers Medizinische Abkürzungen.
(See earlier comments).

Otherwise it could stand for biopsy or possibly a specific type of cassette (could not find anything online though).

A couple of ideas

I searched for a while, and these are all I could come up with

Bromoindigo (or maybe 2 BI is some kind of shorthand for dibromoindigo)
Brilliant indigo

I wasn’t able to find much convincing evidence though
