Swedish term

stykjern

Swedish to English Social Sciences History
In the 1848 estate inventory of Jöns Jonsson from Humselynga in Abild Parish, Sweden, two items of brass (mässing) are mentioned: "En Ljusstake" and "Ett Stykjern," i.e. "A candlestick" and ??????

I have searched various spellings, but don't find a common household item that could have been found in an 1848 inventory. Any suggestions?

smoothing iiron

I agree with Tania that this must be a misprint for 'strykjern', but offer this old name to match the 1848 text.
Another option is 'sad iron'.

Sorry, that should be 'smoothing iron'
Peer comment(s):

agree JaneD : I'd definitely go with "smoothing iron" for this type of object (or indeed "clothes iron") to distinguish it from the many other types of iron in an estate inventory
