English term

housing artwork

English to French Other Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Bonjour,

J'aurais besoin de votre aide pour l'expression en objet dans le contexte "AT21823 SERIES 1800 IN ATEX APPROVED HOUSING ARTWORK (FOR REFERENCE ONLY)" qui est l'intitulé d'un schéma d'une pièce mécanique.

Merci pour votre aide!

Discussion

Tony M Aug 1, 2014:
@ Asker Ah yes, that makes all the difference!

It's not that it necessarily changes the translation of 'artwork' — but it certainly simplifies it, not having to try and qualify it with 'housing'
HERBET Abel Aug 1, 2014:
Artwork could simply be replaced by "fabrication" "make" "construction"
Fabrication avec/du boîtier agrée ATEX
Habib Mahammed (asker) Aug 1, 2014:
Hi Tony,

Indeed, Artwork is in the next line, separately. In this condition what is artwork translation?
Tony M Aug 1, 2014:
Parsing As so often with such titles, the text is too telegraphic to be sure, but I think you may well be parsing this wrongly, possibly leading to some confusion.

I think you need to consider this as "in ATEX approved housing" and then "artwork (for reference only)".
Quite why there would be any 'artwork' on this 'housing' is something only your overall context will clarify, but my understanding would be that this drawing shows artwork on the housing, which is however intended only as an illustration — i.e. there will be a separate, accurate drawing of the artwork for actual use in execution.

It clearly makes sense for a 'housing' to be 'ATEX approved', whereas it would be nonsense to say that the 'artwork' would be 'ATEX approved' — well, unless it was some official form of wording for a warning sign or somesuch; but I doubt that very much!

Le schéma suit le titre "illustrations"

agree mchd : ou description

Merci
disagree Tony M : My interpretation of the EN s/t would be that it refers to artwork depicted on the object, rather than the drawing of the object itself.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Merci pour votre réponse "Illustration" que j'accepte"

English term (edited): artwork

graphismes / écriture / inscription

It really all depends what this 'artwork' consists of.

It it were solely text, then I think 'écriture' might be a good solution (basically 'lettering')

If not, then you might be able to use 'inscription' (= 'marking')

If the artwork clearly includes some purely graphic elements that can't be classed as 'lettering', then 'graphismes' might be a possible solution.
Note from asker:

But who said anything about 'feuille de spécifications'? Asker said this is a "schéma d'une pièce mécanique"!! And it's not a question of 'rigueur' or not — this is a standard way in idiomatic EN of saying that something is "for information only".

Fabrication avec boîtier agrée ATEX

proposé car c'est plus simple
Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : There is no way (especially with the added context provided by Asker) that artwork could = fabrication here; that's just not natural EN at all.

no problem
