A hydroelectric power plant can be categorized in two ways. One way is a "high head" hydroelectric power plant. This is the type of system is more generally used today. It is the technology that uses dams to store water at a high elevation. The dams store water during heavy rainfalls and release the water during the dry periods. The head height for this category is on the range of 100o meters. The advantage of using the "high head" power plants is that the head height can be easily adjusted to meet the electrical demands on the system. The disadvantage of this type of system is that the dams will disrupt the local ecosystems. This type of system also requires a large investment to build a "high head" power plant.

I think "high pressure" could be a red herring, 'cos I don't know whether "high head" and "high pressure" are one and the same thing:)

: "aménagement" does not mean "development", and where does the "pressure head" come from?
