German term

Geburtenbuch (Geburtsregister)

German to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
Da das in einer Urkunde zu übersetzen ist, müssen schon 2 verschiedene Wörter auftauchen, nicht nur Birth Register.

birth record [or recorded birth statistics] / birth registry

What I assume you meant by two terms, not two words.

Registry of births

In Scotland, you usually have "Extracts from the registry of births, marriages and deaths".

BTW I don't believe that just because there are two words in the German that you have to use two words in English. TO take a converse example, let's say you had "profit and loss statement (income statement)". There is only ONE translation in German for both of these, and that's Gewinn- und Verlustrechnung.

agree Hilary Davies Shelby : good point about not needing 2 terms just because the source language needs 2

Office of Vital Statistics

In the US, all birth certificates are registered at and ordered from the Office of Vital Statistics. Each state has their own office.

neutral NGK : Yes, but wouldn't that be Standesamt in German?
