German term

Ausdruck der Aufzeichnungsfelder

I'm not really sure about the whole sentence and also what the 'diese' in the second sentence refers to and in exactly what way they 'vorliegen'.

@Mack
thanks - I will definitely note down "areas of video surveillance". Agree with hard-copy.
Mack Tillman (X) Apr 24, 2011:
@Sabine Aufzeichnungsfelder : areas of video surveillance<br>
entnommen: can be seen on the print out ..., can be determined from the hard copy print (would be an alternative to print-out)
Wulf-Dieter Krüger Apr 24, 2011:
'Diese' refers to 'Aufzeichnungsfelder'.
Aufzeichnungsfelder seem to be the areas covered by the various cameras that have been specified and these specifications are available to the various dunctions/departments of the organisation.
Sabine Schmalzl Apr 23, 2011:
Yes, it does, because "entnommen" in German can also be used as a synonym for "being learned". It isn't always used literally as "taking out" or "removing". In my opinion, it means that the camera locations are depicted in the print outs of the fields of vision (I do not know the correct translation for "Aufzeichnungsfelder, i.e. whoever is looking at these print outs can learn the camera locations from the print outs = kann sie entnehmen.
FishX (asker) Apr 23, 2011:
if that's your interpretation what about 'entnommen' - the locations where the cameras are installed and ... can be removed from the print-out and the print-outs are held by the specified departments - does that make any sense?
Sabine Schmalzl Apr 23, 2011:
In my opinion, if this is to make sense, the "Diese" can only refer to "Ausdruck" (print out). But then, the German grammar is not correct. If the "Diese" refers to "Ausdruck" then the "vorliegen" also makes sense and doesn't need to be specified because it simply means that the deparmtents mentioned have the print outs.
In such a case, if I know the client well enough, I normally inform them about the possibility of a grammar mistake in their source text. Usually they are grateful, especially if the source is published as well.
