Discussion

Michael Harris (asker) Jul 3, 2007:
What do all think of dead loop type of a problem
Martin Wenzel Jul 3, 2007:
Except, vicious circle is mostly used figuratively. I also thought of the dog or cat biting its own tail. I was spontaneously thinking of a dead loop...
Ulrike Kraemer Jul 3, 2007:
This comes from a German Redensart: "Die Katze beißt sich in den (eigenen) Schwanz." Here's a good explanation: http://www.redensarten-index.de/suche.php?suchbegriff=beisst...

vicious circle type of problem

That's my first guess - I'd like someone natively using German to confirm that. Or correct me, if I am wrong.

of course, that needs to me more technical. on the other hand, as I see it, the source text is a bit figurative, too, isn't it? :) Functionally, of course, we should use a less figurative term.

circularity problem

...assuming that they refer to a problem of circular references. Asking someone familiar with that particular system wouldn't hurt.
