German term
als erster überhaupt ... kleinste
German to English
Marketing
Medical: Instruments
Medical devices
Context:
"Zur Messe stellt [Hersteller] als erster Hersteller überhaupt die kleinste [Sonde] vor."
My problem with this is that other such probes already exist, albeit not as small, so it seems wrong to say that this company is the first manufacturer in the world to present such a probe, but seems at least as wrog (and unnecessarily complex) to say they will be the first manufacturer in the world to present the smallest ever such probe.

ODER
"...offers the smallest probe (currently available)..."
Die zwei Superlative in einem Satz machen einfach keinen Sinn... ;-)
Note from asker:
Genau so sah ich das auch, danke für die Bestätigung! |
Thanks everyone. @lirka: It's much harder to do that than you may think. A translation has to convey a meaning, not simply be a series of equivalent words in a different language. |

: @asker: just translate it; if it is "inhaltlich" incorrect, that'snot your problem. You may want to write them a note to that effect.

Why worry if it sounds a bit exaggerated? Anyway, I've tried to tone it down a bit.

Discussion
O.K. a bit far-fetched, the eight "agrees" have convinced me...
It is a bit like saying that the world no longer has an oldest man when "the world's oldest man" has died. Or, to take another example, it's akin to saying that a certain car or computer chip manufacturer is "the first manufacturer ever to make the fastest car (or chip) in the world", as if there had never been a fastest one before. OK, it may be faster than anything that the world has seen before, but before it was made there was already a fastest one, even though that may now have been completely put in the shade by the new one.
That's what was behind my suggestion, trying to be faithful to the source.
