German term

minipli

German to English Other Slang
Ok, I understand that this is a kind of curly haircut or something.
But what exactly and where the word comes from? Is it a sort of acronym?
DANKE in advance!

Discussion

Francis Lee (X) Mar 27, 2006:
Giving us the entire sentence/paragraph would help, as well as the purpose of the translation ;-)
Neva M. (asker) Mar 27, 2006:
Well, it is just a sentence about a funny person with a minipli haircut. I was wondering if I imagine it as I should.
Francis Lee (X) Mar 27, 2006:
Perhaps an exact translation is not in fact necessary. What's the context/sentence?
Hilary Davies Shelby Mar 26, 2006:
Translation below ;-)
Neva M. (asker) Mar 26, 2006:
IN ENGLISH, please :) I have problems with the translation exactly because I don't understand German (but the context is German, that is why I put the question in this language pair :). DANKE!

In English:
"a very rare hairstyle consisting of very very tiny (tight) curls, often found in combination with the mullet [short in front, long at the back]. Famous examples: david hasselhoff, mel gibson, mac guyver, peter maffay, cpt. bernd"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Marianne Hartz-Poseck : klar Locken - allerdings keine natürlichen, sondern künstliche - eben durch die Minipli entstandennen ;-)

Translation for Neva: "definitely curls - but not natural ones - artificial - created by the minipli"
agree Francis Lee (X) : "Bundesliga-Frisur" in Slovene; C/E. Europe is a linguistically diverse region, but perhaps our Asker understands this term, i.e. mullet ;-) / I think I already got that "subtle" difference, I think Asker got the point; I'll spare myself that link, ta 8-(

;-) but as I understand it, the mullet and the minipli are two separate animals, often (and unfortunately) occurring in combination. See www.mulletsgalore.com for the best of the best examples ;-)

Minipli

Minipli ist oder war (ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob es die eigentlich noch gibt - vor 20 Jahren allerdings sehr en vogue) eine sehr schwache Dauerwelle, die das Haar ein wenig voluminöser und lockiger, aber, nicht - wie es bei stärkeren Dauerwellen der Fall sein kann - kraus macht. Ich denke, es ist ein Markenname, bin mir da aber nicht sicher.

It´s a brandname for a special perm - very popular in the 1980s - which is not as strong as a normal perm so that you get curls, but you hair does not get frizzy.
