Emily Lemon (asker) Jul 10, 2008:
Thanks for all your input. XXXX is a geographical region.
Priya Dubey Sah Jul 10, 2008:
@hazmatgerman: exactly! we seem to be on the same plane, more or less! Room for interpretation can well lead to splitting hair!
hazmatgerman (X) Jul 10, 2008:
@Dubey-Sah: We'll see how far asker/customer is willing to go in splitting hairs; source text leaves plenty of room for interpretation. Thx for your discriminating feedback.
Steffen Walter Jul 10, 2008:
Agree with Kim - what does XXXX stand for? What type of regions are we talking about here?
Kim Metzger Jul 10, 2008:
Can you give us a hint what the XXXX stands for? Name of an institute?

area of intersection

That could be it.
Peer comment(s):

agree hazmatgerman (X) : IMO just a synonym for "Schnittmenge" that tries to sound less mathematical.

convergence/ convergent section

This is just the first thought that comes to my mind, since the word at hand implies the meeting point of the two areas. I do feel though that the word itself needs to be understood first and its significance in the text determined. If the word is not very consequential in the entire meaning of the text, can't it simply be done away with. I feel the sentence would then 'sound' more crisp and 'with it'.
Peer comment(s):

neutral hazmatgerman (X) : Convergence would leave nothing of the previous parts but Schnittfeld would. Think of intersecting circles from maths. Regards.//see ATA box.
