From a post WWII memoir relating the history of a Bavarian community:
Gegen Ende des Jahres 1924 wird ein Mittelstandsküche eingrichtet.
This is a time when there was a recovery from dire financial strife - the preceding sentence mentions how money is again flowing into the community's coffers, and the following one has to do with the community providing simple gravestones in the cemetery, where none had been erected due to the relatives' lack of funds.

I became acquainted with Mrs. Luba Wolf from Krakow who was working in the “Mittelstandskueche” (Mittelstandskuche - middle class kitchen (possibly soup kitchen) [German]), it was a kitchen which provided food for refugees. I rented an apartment and started to work as a seamstress.

Im Jahr 1932 wird in München das erste Mädchenwohnheim eröffnet. Dieses Haus wird auch Sitz der deutsch-österreichischen Visitatorie. Eine "Mittelstandsküche für verschämte arme Adlige" wird von der Caritas gefördert.
