Discussion

Thanks, Ian. I'm still working at it.
Ian Forbes Sep 2, 2010:
Depends .. That would depend on how you translated the first part of the sentence. The basic thought is the younger woman’s emotions are like a well springing up unhindered and flooding everything around her, and she puts her whole heart into the expression of her emotions. Nevertheless you might be able to craft some translation that works with your phrase.
Catherine Muir (asker) Sep 1, 2010:
How about ... 'whose spirit imbued everything around her'
Catherine Muir (asker) Sep 1, 2010:
Ian, you're right! Thanks! Yes, Erich and Ian, it IS 'kalbunya'! So sorry!
Ian Forbes Sep 1, 2010:
Hi Catherine, I think Eric is correct on this occasion. I checked on Google books (http://books.google.co.nz/books?id=qvDwOhtGv3IC&pg=PA3&lpg=P... and it definitely says "dengan kepenuhan kalbunya".
Catherine Muir (asker) Sep 1, 2010:
Maaf. Salah ketik. yang benar adalah 'kabulnya'

Catherine, your question says "kaBUL", but your text reads "kaLBU"

This answer refers to the latter. It is a literal translation. The phrase can also point to the whole soul, conscience, or state of mind.

From KBBI:
kal·bu n pangkal perasaan batin; hati yg suci (murni)

The phrase of to seep into everything around her with her whole heart should mean that all things surrounding her seem to reflect her deep emotion, e.g. the flowers are blossoming bright since she is happy (though, in fact, the flowers will still be should she be unhappy).
Note from asker:
Sorry, Erich. As posited in the question, it should be 'kabulnya'.
