Though I do agree with Sven, I think that I'd expect a butiksbiträden to be slightly less active in "selling" - more stocking shelves, but also working in the tills (shop assistant), whereas a butikssäljare is more into "sales" - why you should buy this DVD player rather than the other, cheaper one... (salesperson).

Yes, but one usually calls the females "butiksbiträden" (and pays them less) and the males "butikssäljare" (and pays them better).
