1.1 SAFETY
All centrifugal fans perform a specific function and if installed and operated properly they will provide trouble free and safe service. If not handled properly, however, they can become hazardous to people and property. Qualified personnel should install the fans. Bolt torque, clearance and alignment must be observed. Before startup, a final check should be done to ensure no loose debris is lying in fan casing, fan inlet or ductwork. All equipment guards must be secured in place.
Whenever the fan is shut down for inspection or repair, the electrical system must be locked out. It is advisable that some form of electrical disconnection be installed locally for additional isolation. Fans and attached ductwork equipped with water sprays, or which provide isolation from hot gases must have these devices locked out while personnel are working inside the fan.
Screens should be provided over the fan and ductwork inlets and outlets to ensure that no loose debris can come in contact with the internal rotating parts. The application of the fan can be such that hot, toxic and explosive gases may be contained inside the fan or its related ductwork. Special precautions to have the system purged (especially in low-lying areas) may be required before entering.
Care should be taken when removing access doors even when the unit has been shut down. It is possible that the wheel is still turning, due to windmilling, or is running down. Large fan wheels can take 20 minutes or more to come to a complete stop. Access doors may be under negative or positive pressure even with the fan down and should be opened cautiously.
The fan must be operated and maintained in accordance with this manual. The manual will indicate the maximum speed and temperature that it can operate at.
THESE LIMITATIONS MUST NEVER BE EXCEEDED OR CATASTROPHIC EQUIPMENT FAILURE CAN RESULT.
If there is any question of safety, contact the NYB office before any action is taken.
1.2 STORAGE
Several factors should be considered if the fans are to be put into storage for an extended period of time:
i. If the fan housings are to be stored outside, the cases must be positioned in such a way that water or snow etc is not allowed to gather inside the main casings or inside the inlet boxes.
ii. The bearings must be protected from water and humidity to ensure that the liner surfaces and races do not become oxidized. Condensation will occur unless adequate ventilation is provided. Extra care should be taken when handling the bearings at all times to avoid any abrasion or bruising.
iii. It is recommended that if possible, fan wheel and shaft be rotated regularly to avoid possible damage to the fan bearings.
iv. The fan shafts must be protected against rusting and damage at the shaft ends and bearing surfaces. At the time the assemblies leave the factory, protection is provided over the surfaces. It is recommended that this protection not be removed until equipment is ready for installation.
v. As noted above, any scratches or scrapes that occur to any of the fan components must have touch up paint or grease applied to avoid any rusting. This is especially important if components are stored outside.
vi. All other components should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated place to prevent damage caused by excessive moisture and condensation.

1.1 SEGURIDAD

Translation - English Emmanuel Levinas: Humanism of the Other, face to face
Abstract: This paper deals with the notion of the human being present in Emmanuel Levinas’ philosophy in a shortened approach. This great thinker lived through the historic events in the XX century Europe and focused his thought in the understanding of the human being. Levinas condemns Western humanism and suggests a new current based on a complete responsibility towards the other, the humanism of the Other. This paper aims to analyse the thesis of the Lithuanian-French philosopher which states that subjectivity is built from the otherness, as being-for-the-other. This implies that the self acquires its identity from its responsibility towards the other. Subjectivity is sensitivity, is to be exposed to others, and is vulnerability and responsibility in the closeness to others. Only from this passivity is that we think of subjectivity. However, the former is not a part of subjectivity but rather its fundamental principle. This new humanism has as its key notion the face, seen as a truly metaphysical category.
