What can you do now?
To get your vehicle back, you have 14 days' time to provide evidence of the vehicle havinga valid registration. The time limit of 14 days commences on the date you receive this letter.The vehicle is returned to you after you have provided evidence of the valid registration ofthe vehicle. A valid registration can be shown by submitting a valid vehicle registrationcertificate. The vehicle registration certificate must show:
- Your name
- The chassis number
- The valid registration number.
If it is not possible to apply for a valid registration certificate of the vehicle, you must be ableto make it evident that you are the owner of the vehicle. You may show it by submitting alawful proof of purchase and/or payment. A lawful proof of purchase is an official invoiceand/or proof of payment by way of a bank debit and/or a payment overview.
How can you collect the vehicle?
You can go to any police station and report with a valid registration certificate or a proof ofpurchase. It is important that you go to a police station that is open and that you can show avalid proof of identity. If the documents and our investigation make it evident that the vehicledoes have a valid registration, the Public Prosecutor is notified. Once the Public Prosecutordecides to release the vehicle and to return it, the 'police' garage is notified and you willreceive information as to how to collect your vehicle. If you have a valid registration and avalid registration certificate, you can collect the vehicle with the valid registration platesfrom the garage. In such event, you have to fit the valid registration plates on the vehicle atthe garage prior to proceeding to drive it. If you do not have valid registration plates, youwill have to collect the vehicle in a different way, such as collecting the vehicle with a carambulance or a salvage company
