Looking for the "right" term for the notion of "risk prevention"

English Social Sciences Medical: Health Care workplace accidents
I'm translating a text about workplace accidents and the literal translation of the term that's bothering me is "prevention of labour risks".

When I do a search in Google for "risk prevention" + workers, the first page is all translations from Spanish. In other words, thisn't isn't the term used naturally in anglo contexts.

I already have some ideas but would like to hear what people living in EN-speaking contexts would use.

Thanks

Discussion

B D Finch May 10, 2009:
More context needed It is really not possible to give you a reliable answer without some more context. It is, of course, wrong to talk of risk prevention in a generalised way. One can reduce risks but never prevent all risks, though particular risks can be prevented by ensuring the source is not there. For instance, a risk of burns from quick lime can be prevented by ensuring that there is no quick lime on site.
Samantha Payn May 10, 2009:
Can you provide the full sentence please?
Lia Fail (X) (asker) May 10, 2009:
Extra info I should have mentioned that the text refers exclusively to safety (accidents involving falls, injury, etc) and not to health (intoxication etc)

If it's not about health....

agree David Moore (X) : Or "occupational", if your text is at all official.

neutral B D Finch : This is a term that is quite widely used. Of course, one can only reduce the risks and the accident rate, not prevent them. I'd agree if there was sufficient context to know whether this fits.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I agree wuth B D Finch, that risk isn't prevented, it's accidents that are prevented, and thanks David, I find lots of hits for this term in the right kind of sites. If it were also about health, the term would probably be along the lines of "workplace health and safety"."
