'artistically' - sorry. To me that sounds like a euphemism for beating them up.
Caryl Swift Sep 3, 2007:
about 'a look' and about 'putting together a look'. I've already explained why I suggested 'composing' rather than 'putting together'. One is formal in register. The other isn't. I have never yet heard of anyone artically arranging someone's face. To me
Caryl Swift Sep 3, 2007:
IMO, 'artistic arrangement' is what we do with flowers and furniture. Please have a look at some of the websites in the references I gave you and you'll see that in beauty (and fashion, for that matter), people (books/magazines/product manufactures talk

Caryl, unfortunatelly, I don't know what the subject covers. Anyway, I still don't understand why you think it should be rendered as "composing a look". If I were to translate it literally, it would be "artistic arrangement". Do you believe this is what they study at school of health and beauty? TIA

composing a look

In fact, in more common would be:

'putting a look together // putting together a look'

However, that's the language of beauty magazines and the beauty pages of general magazines and it's not very formal. What I've suggested above is a more formal (though possibly less commonly-used) variant.
