Source text - Swedish Den vanligaste efterbehandlingsmetoden i Sverige samt andra länder innebär att föroreningen grävs bort och deponeras vid en kontrollerad extern deponi. Metoden benämns även som ”excavation”, ”excavation and removal” eller ”excavation and ex situ treatment”. Metoden används främst för att avlägsna källzoner med högkoncentrerat föroreningsinnehåll, men är även vanlig i samband med exploateringsprojekt där urgrävning av anläggningstekniska skäl ändå behöver utföras.
Schaktsanering utförs med fördel på föroreningar som är ytliga alternativt ovan grundvattenytan och kan utföras oberoende av den förorenade jordens kornstorleksfördelning. Schaktsanering kan dock även tillämpas på större djup och/eller under grundvattenytan. Dock måste stabilitets¬problem i form av risk för ras eller skred och sättningar som kan uppkomma i samband med urgrävningen beaktas. I vissa fall kan spontning alternativt terrasserad urgrävning tillämpas.
Metoden kan användas för de flesta organiska och oorganiska föroreningar, men lämpar sig bäst för metallförorenade jordar. Vid en schaktsanering åtgärdas främst de föroreningar som finns i jorden. Om föroreningar har spridits till grundvattnet kan kompletterande behandlingsmetoder behövas.
Translation - English The most common remediation method in Sweden and other countries involves the excavation of polluted soil and depositing it at a controlled external landfill. The method is also termed ‘excavation’, ‘excavation and removal’ or ‘excavation and ex situ treatment’. The method is primarily used to remove source zones with high levels of pollutants, but is also common in conjunction with development projects where excavation occurs anyway for reasons related to construction engineering.
Excavation remediation is best performed in the case of surface pollution or pollution which hasn’t reached the groundwater level, and which can be performed regardless of the soil's grain size distribution. However, excavation remediation can be implemented at deeper levels and/or beneath the ground water level. This does require taking into consideration stability issues in the form of risk of collapses, landslides, and subsidence when excavating. In some cases, piling or terraced excavations can be used.
The method can be used for most organic and inorganic pollutants, but is best suited for metal pollution of soil. Excavation remediation mainly helps remove the pollutants in the soil. If the pollutants have spread to the ground water, additional treatment measures may be necessary.
