Ifølge racens standard er det en medium kat og i forhold til udseende giver det meget brede muligheder for fortolkning og betyder f.eks., at hverken Galliano på 3,6 kg eller Sander på 5,2 kg har fået kritik af deres størrelse på udstillingerne. En burmeser skal være "en mursten svøbt i silke" og det vil sige, at de skal være tungere end de ser ud og have en pels, man bare ikke kan lade være med at røre ved, og de krav opfylder begge katte.
På grund af deres kærlige væsen og uforfærdethed er de særdeles velegnede til børnefamilier. Ingen af mine katte har som voksne boet sammen med børn, men selv helt små børn bliver anset for underholdende og fremtidige killinger vil også til en vis grad være vænnet til børn.
De er utroligt nysgerrige og tillidsfulde og er derfor ikke velegnede til at løbe frit. Hvis der er noget spændende på den anden side af vejen, så ænser de ikke, om der kommer en bil og hvis der er en åben dør eller et åbent vindue, så er det en invitation til at kigge forbi, men det er ikke alle naboer, der er interesserede i at få fremmede katte på besøg og der er desværre også mennesker, der bevidst skader fritgående katte, så derfor har jeg valgt at indhegne min terrasse og sørge for, at kattene kan få opfyldt deres behov på andre måder.
Translation - English According to the standard the burmese is a medium-sized cat and this leaves room for a very broad interpretation of the look and e.g. means that neither Galliano of 3.6 kg nor Sander of 5.2 kg have been criticized for their size at shows. A burmese cat is supposed to be "a brick wrapped in silk" i.e. heavier than they look and a coat you can't resist touching and they both fulfil those requirements.
Because of their loving nature and recklessness they are well suited for families with children. None of my cats have lived with children after they left their breeders, but even very small children are considered entertaining and all future kittens will have met children several times while in my care.
They are incredibly curious and trusting and are therefore not suited for running free. If they see something interesting on the other side of the street, they don't check to see if a car is coming and any open doors or windows are considered to be an invitation to drop by. However, not all neighbours are interested in visits from other people's cats and unfortunately, there are also people out there who deliberately harm free-running cats and I have therefore chosen to fence in my yard and ensure that my cats' needs are fulfilled in other ways.

I have 25 years' experience with larger Danish law firms translating anything from dealer agreements over terms and conditions and employment contracts to - over the past 5-6 years - lots of GDPR Privacy Policies and consent forms in all areas of business. I also do a lot of proofreading, both of human-translated texts, but lately also of MT texts.
Prior to that I worked in the medical field (allergy medicine) where I translated sales and marketing documentation and even medical studies.
In my spare time I am a pedigree cat breeder and exhibitor and active in several clubs/associations which means I have translated anything from genetic studies over breed descriptions to user portals on websites (adaption of a machine-translated text).
