Thank you so much, Gareth, that did it! And also thank you for your quick response! | | | Cannot access termbases | Oct 31, 2009 |
Hi Gareth, After finally getting around to upgrading from the last available release candidate to the final release of SP1, I can no longer access MT termbases from Studio. (Attempts give be a warning message about a bad connection, in Swedish.) Should this procedure work for me too? best regards Joel

Problem remains | Oct 31, 2009 |
Not expecting a response from Trados over the weekend, I gave Gareth's solution to another problem a try, but the problem remains. I'd just started a 125,000-word electrical catalog job with a 3000-word, customer-provided termbase when the problem turned up. Integration with the termbase is critical and I can't start until this problem is resolved. A translation of the error message from Swedish is "An exception has been thrown in an external component." Integration with the termbase is critical and I can't start until this problem is resolved. A translation of the error message from Swedish is "An exception has been thrown in an external component." There are several entries under "Stack trace" for various Studio and MT components/values. I get the same error on old jobs too, on which I had no problems at all previously. Any ideas out there?

After the TB from the project is removed, and Studio is restarted, I can open files, but cannot connect a TB. Get the error message if I try, but the file remains open. If the TB is in the project when I try to open a file, I get the errror message and cannot open the file. I can replicate this on completed projects too that worked fined before, with entirely different TMs. TBs and files. Something broke in the SP1 update process and I have no idea what it is. As I have nothing else to do, I guess I'll run the procedure again, but this time just install the last release candidate from Ocober 13. Reinstalling the latest release candidate was a wash too. Seems like a need to do a cleaner install that I've been able to manage yet, but am out of ideas. Looks like I'll have to wait until support opens Monday. | | | And one last-ditch attempt.. | Oct 31, 2009 |
...failed. Tried Revo Uninstaller, removing all things Trados and then reinstalled Suite, Studio and MT. Exactly the same problem. Guess I can get by with taking Sunday off.

Thanks for the information, Joel. But when I click on your link, I see a number of threads, could you please point me to the thread you are referring to? Cheers!
It's called "SDL Trados Multiterm 8-Studio 2009-Tageditor 8 issue". I've tried the suggested Java fixes, but none have worked... yet. I don't get the same Java versions mentioned, but this seems to be the area that is causing the problem. I'll keep you posted.

I sent you the name of the wrong thread, although I did try the fix there too. Try searching for "java" and set the period to "two weeks". I'm going to continue this on that thread. The title, "Error message when trying to open termbase in Trados Studio 2009", is a much better fit for this problem.

[Edited at 2009-11-01 12:50 GMT] Found that thread, thank you. Earlier, I noticed that 'Windows Installer Clean Up' didn't really remove my Studio and MultiTerm' (they were still in my Program Files Folder) which is strange, but I used 'Add or Remove Programs' from the Control Panel and removed them then re-installed them. I have Java 1.6.0_15 1.6.0_14 1.6.0_13 1.5.0_10 I have also added -Xmx32m parameters to all of the above. But after re-installation, I still get the same error message when try to open Studio. I am using Windows XP on a iMac (using Parallels software), but I don't think this can be the problem, because Studio was working fine this way until last Friday 30th Oct before I downloaded SP1 (I downloaded SP1 on the 29th)...
My problems started Friday. Wonder if there was a Java update released that day. I've uninstallled all Java and Trados programs using Revo Uninstaller, and have begun installing them again. After installing Suite, my Trados version is 1.5. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » SDL Studio SP1 - programs don't work anymore Anycount & Translation Office 3000 | Translation Office 3000
