I am not looking for the translation of job title.

El problema está en que casi no se ve que en un diploma a nivel universitario (otorgada en un país de habla inglesa) aparezca el nombre que se utiliza para referirse a un profesional, como 'technician' (o engineer, o lawyer). On a university diploma, you normally see the fied of study. In contrast, on a tech school certificate, you might be as likely to see a job title (like Technician or Specialist) as you are a field (like Auto Mechanics or Cosmotology). I think the difference is the nature of the program and the type of institution. And here, since it's a university, the most appropriate rendering may be one that refers to a program of study. I hope this helps!

@Marcelo As usual, I just offered my translation of the query term without really looking at what anyone else had posted or deleted or whatever. This is how I usually translate "Técnico Superior en Informática"... ", for example "Bob is a senior IT technician". If the asker is looking for the name of the diploma course or the qualification issued at the end of one, then I think several options are possible, of which yours is one.

@Neil To me, if the asker took the time to add the word 'diploma' to the KudoZ classification (since it's not found in the drop-down menu alongside Education and Pedagogy), it had to have been for a reason. If not, Senior IT Technician (the very suggestion I made and promptly removed, in fact) would be fine, of course. If it were a job title, however, wouldn't the classification be different? To me It's not quite clear if the asker is looking for the name (job title) of the person, or the name of a college or uni course. I took it to mean the former when posting my suggestion. Otherwise, I'd say Marcelo's answer is along the right lines.

@Helena I agree, Helena. If this involved translating the position (or post) of 'técnico superior,' that would be complicated, as positions (especially those with ranks) can pose unique challenges. Admittedly, I first translated it as if it were the position, but then noticed the (specific and very helpful) way the asker had classified the question, ie *Education / Pedagogy / Diploma*. @Helena In this case though, are we really translating someone's position, or is it the name of a diploma/course of study? As for your point about different countries, I don't think this should necessarily preclude anyone from making valid suggestions. Let the poster and/or community decide in the end that which is most helpful. I think having a variety of proposals and active discussion, which includes clarifications and evaluations, is what leads to the best options, enriching the glossary in the process.

@Marcelo It's a complicated term to translate. My Spanish sister-in-law is a 'técnico superior' in another field but I think the translation depends on the target country/readers. I know how I would translate term for the UK but I'm not familiar with qualifications in other countries. However, your translation seems to cover it quite well.

Instead of 'technical studies', another way to make it clear the program produces what might be called *technicians* (without using this term in the name of qualification) might be to use the word(s) *Diploma* and/or *Applied*.

The use of 'applied' here may be especially appropriate for non-transfer study, ie workforce training, similar to that offered in the US community college system: basically, the difference between a two-year A.A.S. (Applied Associate of Science) degree and an also two-year A.S. (Associate of Science) degree, with the latter seen as transferable, allowing its holders to transition more easily into a bachelor's degree.
