Chinese to English Art/Literary Architecture Beijing Siheyuan architectural term
Also known as 后罩房, but 后罩楼 indicates that it is a two-story structure (or higher). Typically found in a siheyuan (四合院).

Here is a description/definition from 百科:

后罩房和正房朝向一致，坐北朝南，其间数一般是和倒座房相同，以尽量添满住宅基地的宽度。后罩房的等级低于正房和厢房，其房屋尺度及质量相比而言都稍差。后罩房位于四合院的最后，比较隐秘，一般是女儿和女佣等女眷居住之地。

Based on this, I can describe it -- signification of its location, etc. -- for the reader of my literary translation. But I am looking for the actual term normally used to express the name of this structure in English.

’backside of the hill‘ is a common use. 山背后，也是美国英语的用法。backside building 令你想起屁股也没办法。：）tanglsus 的 back annex 建议也可能令你想起 anus。：）

David Lin: you've done an excellent job finding this graphic/text description of a siheyuan. Well done! But I'll leave the question open for further answers right now, for this reason: "Backside building" is perhaps "correct," but this is not quite the wording I'm looking for. In the literary text I'm working on, the woman of noble blood who lives there -- her history and even her present -- are very mysterious. I hope to find a term which is a little more, well, romantic.

Thanks. It is a "normal" answer that I think fits perfectly the original request, but the Asker has changed to a "romantic" request. Don't know what's next to come. Something "mysterious"? :)
