رد بضحكة ساخرة كبيرة، لم أفهمها يومها، اليوم فهمتها بعد سنين طوال. وأنا أرى الأحزاب العقائدية تحشد لحرب ضروس في بلدي، متنافسة في دعم نظام مجرم يحارب شعبا كاملا... نعم اليوم فهمت ضحكته، والتوت شفتاي في ضحكة مشابهة فيما كنت أرد عليه التحيات المعتادة والدعوات القلبية ب"انفراج الأزمة"
- "سهام.."
- "؟؟"
- "لماذا أنتم صابرون على هذا الوضع؟"
- "كما يصبر غيرنا، ليس ذلك بالأ/ر العسير، الحمدلله ظرفنا أفضلمن غيرنا بكثير."
- "لكن لديكم خيار آخر"
كنت أعرف ما يرمي إليه، فقد تكررت محاولاته في إقناعنا بالسفر هربا من قدر مجهول، أو ضيقة أشد، أجبته الإجابة المعهودة"

- "خذوا حذركم، وإن أحسست في أي وقت..."
أكملت الجملة عنه موفرة على نفسي المزيد من الضغط..
- "إن أحسست بخطر سآتي يا خال، ولو قررنا السفر قطعا سنأتي إليك، نعرف أن لنا ظهرا نعتمد عليه، كيف حال جدتي وزوجك والأطفال؟..."
تابعت بعدها بحديث روتيني عن الصحة والمدارس والأطفال، اتنهى بسرعة وعدت للتصفح من جديد، وكلمة ضخمة أكبر من محيط الألم تطرق جدران جمجمتي برتابة موجعة "لاجئ سوري"
- "أخي المسلم، ساعد أخواتك في سوريا، فهن يتعرضن لكافة أنواع الانتهاك والإذلال، ساعدهن واحمهن، أنا شخصيا سأتزوج اثنتين."
كان مقطعا من الفيديو بثه أحد الأصدقاء معلقا بالكثير من إشارات التعجب...
لم أصدق عيني وأنا أرى الشيخ ذو اللحية البيضاء يتشدق بكلماته تلك بوقاحة سافرة على شاشة قناة "إسلامية".
يا له من زمن يجاهد فيه أنصاف الرجال بصلبهم!
شعرت برغبة في البكاء، أنهيت تجوالي الكئيب بسرعة وجلست لدقائق محملقة في شاشة حاسوبي الفارغة... موسيقى؟ ربما تحسن الموسيقى مزاجي، فأنا لم أسمع سوى الأغاني الوطنية منذ زمن طويل بحق، قلبت في ملفات جهازي حتى وصلت لبعض الأغاني "المرحة".
للموسيقى أثر رهيب على النفس البشرية، أحسست بالألحان تغسل روحي وعقلي من أي أفكار أو أحاسيس، واندمجت في الألحان الصاخبة، شيئا فشيئا بدأ كتفاي يتراقصان مع الألحان ... "لم لا؟!" أسسرت لنفسي "مازلت حية أليس كذلك؟"
قمت من جلوسي الطويل وبدأت بالتمايل بغنج ودلال لا تجيدهما إلا الأنثى الشرقية، بدات الضحكة تعلو وجهي، أحسست بروحي تتفتح كوردة أنعشتها أشعة شمي يوم ربيعي...
"وأنت إيديك في إيديا قولي هسيبها ليه" لمست كلمات الأغنية جرحا غائرا وعاد السؤال القديم يتراقص بداخلي"لماذا تركني؟ كان يحبني ويعشقني، كنت له الدنيا... فلماذا رحل عني؟" شيئا فشيئا ثار طوفان العويل في داخلي، تغيرت حركاتي لتتناسب مع فيضان جراحي، وبدأت أرمح في كل مكان في الغرفة كطير ذبيح، عادت الذكريات للتكدس في كومات من الصور فوق مرأة روحي، أخذت أدور في كل مكان مصطدمة بالأشياء من حولي، كأس بلورية على طاولتي سقطت وتهشمت، ولكأنما بتهشمها أرسلت رسالة لعقلي بأن يغيب، فانطلق جنوني من عقاله وأخذت أرمي كل ما تصل يدي له في نوبة جنون مطلق، وصوت بداخلي يئن بوجع: "لماذا؟!.. لماذا؟! لماذا؟! لماذا؟!.."
انهرت على سريري، دفنت رأسي في وسادتي، اختلطت صرخاتي بدموعي "لماذا؟!.. لماذا؟!.." ولم أتوقف حتى خارت قواي تماما.
كدت أسلم نفسي لسبات عميق، على الرغم من الصوت المرتفع للأغاني الصاخبة، والذي نجح بإخفاء نوبة غضبي عن أبي وصغيرتي، لكن رنين الهاتف انتشلني من حافة كابوس كريه وأنا لا أزال على مشارفه، لم يكن هاتفي المحمول طبعا، فهو مستمر في صمت اعتنقه مذ لمسته يد سمير؛ كان الهاتف الأرضي، أغلقت حاسوبي بسرعة، ورفعت سماعة الهاتف محاولة إخفاء آثار البكاء عن صوتي...
- "سهام أنتِ بخير؟"
كانت تلك صديقة قديمة للأسرة، صديقة منذ طفولي، في الواقع منذ طفولتها هي وجدتي...
- "نعم يا خالة أنا على خير حال والحمدلله، وأنتِ؟"
- "حمدا لله، وماذا عن رضوى؟"
استغربت سؤالها، فالخالة رضوى شقيقة جدتي، كانت قد رفضت كل محاولة لنا لإقناعها أو للضغط عليها بكافة الوسائل والطرق لتقبل الانتقال للسكن معنا، خوفا عليها من الوحدة وظروف الحروب الصعبة، إلا أنها أبت وآثرت هدوء منزلها وصحبة جيرانها القدامى.
- "خالتي رضوى في منزلها" أجبتها والدهشة تملأ صوتي
- "حاولت أن أتصل بها دون جدوى، أردت أن أطمئن عليها بعد الانفجار."
طبعا الانفجارات أصبحت جزءا من حياتنا اليومية، لكن.. أن يرغب أحدهم بالاطمئنان عنك بعد انفجار، فهذا لا يعني إلا شيئا واحدا...
- "أي انفجار؟" أحسست بموجة صقيع تسري في جسدي كله، ثم سألتها. "أين؟"
- "ليس بعيدا عن مساكن الخالدية يا بنيتي، لذا اتصلت لأطمئن."
بدأ صدري بالانقباض، انفجار قريب، يعني على أفضل تقدير شظايا زجاج النوافذ!
- "قلتِ لي اتصلتِ بها؟"
- "نعم يا حبيبتي ولم ترد علي." تردد خفيف بدى في صوتها، فقد أدركت للتو أنها أقلقتني بشدة.
- "حسنا سأطمئن عليها وأعاود الاتصال بها، لا تقلقي لابد أنها بخير، ربما تكون نائمة." حاولت أن أخفي قلقي عنها، وطمأنتها فيما كانت نيران القلق تنهش في صدري..
- "بارك الله فيك يا ابنتي، السلام عليكم."
- "وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله وبركاته."
صور بشعة بدأت تطوف في خيالي وأنا أقفل السماعة، وأعاود رفعها بسرعةلأطلب الرقم الذي أحفظه عن ظهر قلب، خالتي رضوى، التي كانت تحشي فمي وجيوبي بكل أنواع الحلوى كلما رأيتها، كنت زيارتي لها لأشبه بزيارة مغارة علي بابا، كنت أجول في غرفها مستكشفة في رحلة خيالية للبحث عن الكنز، إذ كان يحلو لها أن تخبئ في كل زاوية شيئا من السكاكر والشوكولاتة، كانت تهوى إمتاع الأطفال، الأطفال الذين حرمها الله من نعمة إنجابهم.
انقطع صوت الرنين دون أن يرد أحد، عاودت الاتصال ثانية...
لقد قصرت مؤخرا في حق خالتي رضوى، كانت تأتي إلينا حاملة سنها التسعين، والكثير من الحلوى لأمل، فيما تخصني بساعات من العتب الحزين.
"سأموت يوما دون أن يدري أحد، لأنك لا تسألين عني" كنت في كل مرة أقدم لها طبقا مشكلا من الاعتذارات: "العمل"، "ظروف الحرب"، "التعب"، "أمل ودراستها".. كانت في كل مرة تتناول منه ما يكفي لإرضاء خاطرها الكسير، وتعود المرة التالية حاملة في جعبتها عتابا أكبر وقلقا أكبر، من أن تموت وحيدة.... خالتي رضوى!
للمرة الثانية انقطع صوت الرنين دونما رد..
كل أقربائنا إما رحلوا أو هاجروا أو لجأوا إلى بلاد أخرى هربا من ويلات الحرب، ولم يتبق إلا أبي، ابنتي، وخالتي رضوى: لابد من أن أطمئن عليها، ارتديت ثيابي بسرعة، ذهبت لأبي وشرحت له الموقف، وافق على مضض بعد أن حاول الاتصال بها دونما جدوى..
- "لا تتأخري يا ابنتي، الطرقات ليست آمنة حين يحل الظلام والحواجز...."
- "أعلم يا أبي، لن أطيل الغياب لا تقلق."
- وعدته بأن أسرع خطاي، الطريق كان طويلا وساعة المغرب كانت قد اقتربت، لكنني وعدته بأن أعود باكرا وأنا أمنحه قبلة على جبينه الوضاء، منحت صغيرتي الحلوة قبلة على وجنتها، و وعدا بإحضار الكثير من حلوى الخالة رضوى، وخرجت من البيت مسرعة وفي خيالي صورة ملحة لامرأة عجوز طيبة ممدة على أرض منزلها، مضرجة بالدم.
Translation - English “Don’t you get exposed to racial discrimination there?” I asked.
He replied with one big ironic laugh that I never understood then, but, now, after so many long years, I do understand it while watching the Dogmatic Parties mobilizing their troops for an internecine war in my country and competing with each other in supporting Al-Assad; the ripper’s criminal regime who fights against his entire people…Yes now I understand his laugh and my lips curled in a similar laugh while I was responding to him with the usual greetings and the hearty prayers of “crisis détente”
- “Seham…”
- “??”
- “Why do you all remain so patient about this condition?”
- “As all others remain so. It is not that hard. Thank god; our condition is much better than others”
- “But you have another choice!”
I knew what he was aiming at as his attempts to convince us of travelling to escape an unknown destiny or a more severe hardship have been recurrent. I gave him the typically familiar answer.
-“Travelling is completely rejected for me, uncle, you know that very well.”
- “Why, my daughter? You know very well that my home is always open for you and that all countries offer all kinds of aid, facilitations, and…”
- “To become a refugee, right?!”
- “Just temporarily till the war is over.”
- “I don’t think that what you have just said is less different than the justifications with which the Palestinian refugees are consoling themselves”
- “Syria is not Palestine”
- “Yes, I know that, but, I will never leave my country”
- “This is madness! What exactly will your country get from you and your presence? Whatever you can do out there, you can do it here.”
- No, uncle, this is my country… mine own country and not theirs. I will never leave it to those Shabiha gangs (thugs).”
- “But, honey!...”
He started typing something. The virtual pen which was moving and shaking on the screen showed me the other party’s engagement in typing during the conversation, however, he changed his mind about the words he typed. Few minutes passed in complete silence and then he confirmed to me again:
- “Take your precautions and if you ever feel at any time…”
I completed the sentence instead of him saving myself more pressure…
- “If I ever feel any danger, I will come, uncle, and if we decide to travel, we will surely come to you. We know that you’ve got our back. So, how is my grandmother, your wife, and your children?...
Then, I continued the conversation with routine talks about health, school, and children and it ended quickly. I returned back to browsing again, but, the words of “A Syrian refugee” which were larger than the ocean of pain in which I was almost drowning were continuously knocking on the walls of my skull in a painful monotonous way.
“My Muslim brother, help your sisters in Syria; they are exposed to all kinds of physical abuse and psychological humiliation. Help them and protect them. Personally, I’m going to marry two of them.”
It was a video clip posted by a friend commenting with lots of exclamation signs…
I didn’t believe my eyes when I saw that so-called Sheikh, with the white beard, uttering those words in a blatantly insolent manner on a TV channel claiming to be “Islamic”.
“What a time we’ve come to! It’s a time when those so-called men have lost their virility to the extent that they think they are doing Jihad by marriage”
I felt a strong desire to cry, I cancelled my dreary browsing quickly, and I sat for some minutes staring at my computer’s empty screen… Music?! Perhaps music can improve my mood… as I haven’t listened to any kind of songs for a long time except to national songs. So, I searched my device’s folders till I found some “fun” songs.
Music has a magnificent effect on human soul; I felt as if the melodies were washing my soul and taking my mind off any other thoughts or feelings and I got gradually engaged in the loud melodies. My shoulders started to dance with the melody… “Why not?!” I whispered to myself, “I’m still alive, aren’t I?!”
I got up after sitting for a long time and I started to sway in a way filled with coquetry and fondness that no other woman can master except the Eastern woman. A laugh started to prevail my face and I felt that my soul has become like a flower blooming and refreshing by sunlight on a spring day…
“Your hands are in my hands. So, why am I going to leave them?!”, the lyrics of the song touched a deep wound in my heart and the old question of “why did he leave me? came back shaking me from the inside. He loved me, he adored me, I was almost the world for him, yet, why did he abandon me?”
Gradually, the flood of wailing arose inside of me, my moves changed to suit my wounds’ flood, and I began to dart around the room like a wounded bird. The memories came back to accrue in a heap of photos above my soul’s mirror, I continued to sway in each and every corner of the room clashing with all things around me. A crystal cup on my table fell and broke as if its smash was a message sent to my mind ordering it to get lost. So, I went crazy out of hand and I threw everything my hands could get to in a bout of total madness. A voice kept moaning painfully inside me: “Why?!.. What for?! Why?!.. Whyyyy?!..”
I collapsed on my bed, I buried my head in my pillow, my screams and cries mixed with my tears “why?!..Why?!...”, and I did not stop till all my strength was completely sapped.
I almost surrendered myself to a deep sleep despite the rising sound coming from the loud songs which actually succeeded in covering up my bout of anger from my dad and my little one, but, the ringing of my phone pulled me out of the edge of an unpleasant nightmare when I was still at its beginning. It wasn’t my mobile phone, of course, as it has been silent since Samir’s hand touched it. It was the landline. I switched off my computer quickly and I picked up the phone trying to hide that I was crying…
- “Seham, are you okay?”
It was an old family friend, a family friend since my childhood; actually, since my grandmother’s childhood and hers too…
- “Yes, auntie, I am fine, thank God, and you?”
- “Thank God, and what about Radwa?”
I was amazed at her question as my aunt, Radwa; my grandmother’s sister, has refused all our attempts of convincing her or putting some pressure on her by all means and ways so as to accept to move and live with us due to our fear for her being lonely and due to the difficult circumstances of the deadly war. Nevertheless, she refused that and preferred to stay within the quietness of her own home and the company of her old neighbours.
- “My aunt is at her home”, I answered her with complete astonishment.
- “I tried to call her, but, in vain. I wanted to make sure that she is okay after the explosion.”
Of course, explosions have become a part of our daily life, but, if someone wants to make sure if you’re okay or not after an explosion, this means only one thing…
- “What explosion?!” I felt as if a wave of frost is running through my whole body and then I asked her “Where?”
- “Not too far from the Khalidiya neighbourhood, sweetie, that’s why I called to reassure myself.”
My heart and chest just started to hurt. A near explosion! Meaning that, at the very least, there are splinters of windows’ glass!
- “You said you called her? “
- “Yes, honey, and she didn’t answer.” A slight hesitation seemed obvious in her voice and I immediately realized that she has made me a lot worried.
- “Fine, I will call her back to make sure whether she is okay or not. Don’t worry, I’m sure she is fine, she must be sleeping.” I tried to hide my anxiety from her and I reassured her whereas my chest was eaten away by the flames of anxiety...
- “God bless you, my dear, As-salaam alaikum.”
- “Peace be upon you too.”
Horrid pictures started wandering through my mind while I was hanging up and picking up the phone in a hurry again to dial the number I memorized by heart. My aunt, Radwa, who used to overstuff my mouth and my pockets with all kinds of desserts every time I saw her. My visit to her was like visiting Ali Baba’s cave as I used to wander through the rooms of her house exploring things in a fantasy trip looking for the treasure; she liked to hide in each corner some sweets and chocolate. She was obsessed with entertaining kids; a blessing of which Allah has deprived her of having.
The sound of ringing stopped with no one answering. I called back again.
I have failed my aunt, Radwa, lately. She used to come to us, although she was 90, with lots of sweets for Amal. As for me, she used to give me hours of sad reproach saying “one day, I will die and no one will realize because you don’t check on me”. Each time, I served her a plate of varied excuses: “work”, “circumstances of war”, “fatigue”, or “Amal and her study”. Each time, she had from that plate what was enough to satisfy her broken heart, then, she returned the following time carrying much reproach and anxiety in her heart as she was afraid of dying lonely… My aunt, Radwa!
The sound of ringing just stopped for the second time without an answer too.
All of our relatives have either left, have been displaced, or have resorted to other countries so that they could escape the ravages of war. My father, my daughter, and my aunt Radwa were the only family I have left. I have to make sure she is okay. So, I put on my clothes quickly, I went to my father and explained the situation to him and he reluctantly agreed after I tried to call her again and again but all in vain.
“Honey, don’t be late; the roads are not safe at night and the barriers…”
- “I know father, it won’t be long, don’t worry”
I promised him I would keep my paces fast. The road was long and the hour of dusk was nearly coming, but, I promised him I would return back early, gave him a kiss on his lightsome forehead, kissed my little sweet one on her cheeks, promised her to bring lots of aunt Radwa’s sweets, and went out of the house quickly with this recurrent image inside my mind of a kind old woman lying on the floor of her house and covered in blood.

Source text - English United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons
Resolution adopted by the General Assembly on 30 July 2010
The General Assembly,
Guided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and reaffirming its role under the Charter, including on issues related to development, peace and security and human rights,
Reiterating its strong condemnation of trafficking in persons, especially women and children, which constitutes a serious threat to human dignity, human rights and development,
Noting that trafficking in persons continues to pose a serious challenge to humanity and requires a concerted international response, and urging all States to devise, enforce and strengthen effective measures to combat and eliminate all forms of trafficking in persons,
Recognizing the need to develop a global plan of action against trafficking in persons that will:
(a) Promote universal ratification of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children,
(b) Promote comprehensive, coordinated and consistent responses, at the national, regional and international levels, to counter trafficking in persons,
(c) Raise awareness within the United Nations system and also among States and other stakeholders, such as the private sector, civil society and the international and national mass media, and the public at large,
1. Adopts the present resolution and its annex as the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons;
2. Decides to formally launch the Plan of Action at a one-day, high-level meeting of the General Assembly, and urges Member States, the United Nations and other international, regional and subregional organizations as well as civil society, including non-governmental organizations, the private sector and the media, to fully and effectively implement the relevant provisions of the Plan of Action and the activities outlined therein;
3. Requests the Secretary-General to present proposals to finance the staffing and programmatic requirements of the Secretariat;
4. Urges Member States that have not yet done so to consider ratifying or acceding to, as a matter of priority, the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime3 and the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime,4 taking into
consideration the central role of those instruments in the fight against trafficking in persons, and also urges States parties to those instruments to implement them fully and effectively.

Translation - Arabic خطة عمل الأمم المتحدة العالمية لمكافحة الاتجار بالأشخاص
قرار اتخذته الجمعية العامة ف 30 تموز/يوليه 2010
إن الجمعية العامة،
مسترشدة بمبادئ ميثاق الأمم المتحدة ومقاصده، وإذ تعيد تأكيد دورها بموجب الميثاق، بما يشمل الدور الذى تقوم به بشأن المسائل المتعلقة بالتنمية، والسلام، والأمن، وحقوق الإنسان،
وإذ تكرر التأكيد على إدانتها الشديدة للاتجار بالأشخاص ولاسيما النساء والأطفال، مما يشكل تهديدًا لكرامة الإنسان، وحقوق الإنسان، والتنمية،
وإذ تشيد وتسلم بأن مسألة الاتجار بالأشخاص لا تزال تشكل تحديًا خطيرًا للإنسانية وتتطلب استجابة دولية متضافرة، كما تحث كل الدول الأعضاء على وضع التدابير الفعالة وتطبيقها وتعزيزها لمكافحة والقضاء على كل أشكال الاتجار بالأشخاص،
وإذ تسلم بضرورة تفعيل خطة عمل عالمية لمكافحة الاتجار بالأشخاص من أجل القيام بما يلي:
أ) تشجيع التصديق العالمي على اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الجريمة المنظمة عبر الحدود وبروتوكول منع وقمع الاتجار بالأشخاص والمعاقبة عليها، وبخاصة النساء والأطفال،
ب) تشجيع التصدي على نحو كامل ومنسق ومتسق على الصعد الإقليمي والوطني والدولي لمكافحة الاتجار بالأشخاص،
ج) نشر التوعية داخل منظومة الأمم المتحدة وبين الدول الأعضاء أيضًا وأصحاب المصلحة أو السلطات المعنية الأخرى مثل القطاع الخاص، والمجتمع المدني، ووسائل الإعلام الدولية والوطنية والجمهور عامة،
1- تتخذ هذا القرار وملحقه بوصفه خطة عمل عالمية للأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الاتجار بالأشخاص؛
2- تقر بأن تطلق رسميًا خطة العمل في اجتماع رفيع المستوى للجمعية العامة مدته يوم واحد، وتحث الدول الأعضاء، والأمم المتحدة، والمنظمات الأخرى الدولية والإقليمية ودون الإقليمية الأخرى بالإضافة إلى المجتمع المدني، وبما في ذلك المنظمات غير الحكومية، والقطاع الخاص، ووسائل الإعلام على أن تنفذ بالكامل وبفعالية تامة الأحكام ذات الصلة خطة العمل والأنشطة المحددة فيها؛
3- وتطلب إلى الأمين العام أن يقدم مقترحات لتمويل احتياجات الأمانة العامة من الموظفين واحتياجاتها البرنامجية؛
4- كما تحث الدول الأعضاء التى لم تصدق على اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الجريمة المنظمة عبر الحدود (3) وبروتوكول منع وقمعع جريمة الاتجار بالأشخاص والمعاقبة عليها، ولاسيما النساء والأطفال، المكمل لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الجريمة المنظمة عبر الحدود (4) أو تنضم إليهما بعد على النظر في القيام بذلك على سبيل الأولوية، وذلك مع مراعاة الدور الرئيسي لهذين الصكين في مكافحة الاتجار بالأشخاص وتحث أيضًا الدول الأطراف في هذين الصكين على تنفيذهما تنفيذًا تامًا وفعالًا؛
