No problem in Denmark Apr 22, 2016

Do anyone here know what the facts are to avoid double taxation between Spain and Denmark?

It's not a hard problem to solve for freelancers in Denmark. Go to cvr.dk, print out your "Registreingsbevis" to a pdf file, rename the file to "Danish Certificate of Tax Residency 2016" and send it to your customer. Two minute work!

This document includes information on your tax office ("Skattecentrer" in the "Stamoplysninger" section) and my clients accept it - at least in Romania and Portugal.

NB: no double tax agreement between DK and Spain/France Apr 22, 2016

This just reminds me that Denmark unilaterally gave notice on the double taxation agreements with France and Spain with effect from 1 January 2009, and no new agreements have replaced them.

This means that in principle, national taxes in these countries could apply to income earned by Danish residents (and the opposite).

The reason was that Denmark insisted on taxing Danish retired expats' Danish pensions, whereas normal double taxation practice is that pensions are taxed in the country of residence. Both France and Spain refused to agree to this change, so Denmark used the nuclear option and gave notice on the agreement, affecting businesses, freelancers and everybody else, just over pension tax. Crazy, but that's Denmark. Tax above all.
