Today is this users birthday - ignores checkbox

Today I received som egreetings for my birthday from other ProZians - I was surprised as it is not my birthday.
Well, it seems that there is a birthday setting option in the basic profile, which I have not used, so it is on the default jan 1, 2006 setting. That would explain it, but the checkbox underneath, which says "Show a note to others when it is my birthday" is unchecked, so it should not show the little cutie birthday cake on my profile.

It seems that the function ignores this checkbox. The only way I could make the birthday notice disappear form my profile is to set the date to Jan 2, the checkbox still unchecked.
Could you please doublecheck what is going on?
