My alarm clock rules.

I was supposed to wake up at 5:10am last Saturday to get to a place early and spend a day of farniente, but I forgot to set the alarm clock. I suddenly woke up at 2:00am and set the alarm clock. My reptilian brain must have thought that this was important.

For some reason, this never happens when I forget to set the alarm clock early to finish some translation in time.

Do you tend to wake up earlier when you've got ongoing work?

This question is so interesting that I'm going to take the rest of the week off to think about it and weigh up its implications.

I work better late at night when the house is quiet, so I tend to sleep later and wake up later as well.

I have been translating full-time for over 35 years but even so some projects "get to my nerves" and make me wake up well before my alarm clock, which is set to 8am but today, for instance, I woke up at 6:45am (I have been overloaded with work since the beginning of this month after a very very slow May)…

Instead, I tend to stay up later. I'm always afraid that if I let myself sleep, I'll end up running out of time.

Not productive during the day anyway. Definitely an evening person.

...only when I want to review the translation I finished the day before so I have a fresh mind to fine-tune my piece before delivering it to clients.

Fine-tuning works well for me in early mornings.

No, I tend to stay up late rather than waking up early.

Only if I need to check a job to deliver

I wake up early every day Jun 17, 2020

I wake up the same time every day reagrdless of having an ongoing project or not. I have to follow my family's routine and also check my e-mails, as there may be messages from European clients in my inbox early in the morning which require a prompt reply.

It depends Jun 17, 2020

I wake up around 5 a. m. every day, including weekends. Usually this suffices whenever ongoing work needs to be completed in a timely manner, or earlier. Depending on the deadline, I sometimes do start this early, but usually between 7 and 8 a. m.

I wake up around the same time regardless of my workload. I might, however, skip my daily walk in the morning if I know my day is going to be considerably busier than usual.

Frankly speaking, being freelancer I always try to send the work well before deadline, so if it takes my early morning time, then okay. Moreover, I feel that a freelancer is just like a small level business, so it may take odd timing of your life.

My personal views. 😇
