Iron Maiden date back to 1975 and Black Sabbath to 1968 (I used to listen to them when I was still in high school).

So yes, certainly old-fashioned, and "classical" by some definitions.

And the point is? The context will give you a clue about what is what.

You get your monkeys for nothing and your chimps for free.

Interesting collection, but most of them are unlikely to be considered the actual lyrics by fans.

No-one, not even drunk on New Year's Eve, will think that Queen actually sings "Saving his life from this warm sausage tea" or that StarShip sings "We built this city on sausage rolls". I wonder how weird one's brain might work to consider that Abba is truly saying "feel the beat on the tangerine", although this might be the closest anyone gets who don't know what a "tambourine" is. It is far more believable that Bon Jovi might sing "It doesn’t make a difference if we’re naked or not" or that Johnny Nash might sing "I can see clearly now Lorraine is gone".

Not realizing that Nirvana is singing "A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido" is not an error in my book. Those aren't true lyrics... they're just words that sound good together. Anyone can write a "song" that consists of random words that make up a beat. And sadly, many modern musicians do just that.

Do you also expect poems to rhyme?!

I wouldn't say "random". To me there's a clear message in those lyrics, about how the singer's attempts to spice up his/her sex life were frustrated by a torn mosquito net.

Songs are a difficult beast Jan 13

And that's true especially for english/american songs because the voice is often drowned in music (italian sound engineers/producers put the voice way above the music, instead). Also, pronunciation: I recall a scene in the "Jumping Jack Flash" movie where Whoopi Goldberg is having hard time trying to understand what Mick Jagger is singing.
