I think the near future of translation is quite obvious and pretty much the same as the current situation: humans will be doing mostly MTPE/AIPE, although conventional translation will continue to exist to some extent.
This will continue until AI is able to copy human intelligence 100%, if it ever does that. It might, but not because the tech bros are shouting to the whole world it will.

How many times, and in how many paraphrased versions, are we going to have to answer this question?
I know that I've given my answer at least five times. Anyone who's interested can look it up.

Re: From producing text to taking responsibility for it
07:13
In my experience the role is shifting from producing text to taking responsibility for it. In legal and medical translation, clients still need someone who can stand behind the terminology, spot the clause that changes liability, and sign off on a document a regulator or court will read. AI handles more of the first draft, but accountability, domain expertise and cultural judgment are becoming the core of what we sell, and should be priced that way.

AI question again?

Isn't this becoming boring?
But, honestly, thank you for using "evolve" rather than "get better", because they definitely do not do the latter, while "evolution" as such is a very flexible term that mostly just means "cobble random stuff together and see if it works".
